Ranks and Progression
Going From Zero To Hero
Character Ranks:
A character's rank determines how strong they are compared to other characters. A character should be an even match against another character of the same rank. They will be weaker against higher ranks and stronger against lower rank. These ranks are acknowledged in characterly with NPC's and other characters saying things like 'That's a novice,' or 'He's an Expert.'
Character ranks determine how much damage is taken from abilities. They also determine what level of abilities they can learn.
There are multiple ways to rank up a character. More information about this can be found in the shop. At any rank, you can complete a trial created by the staff. These trials will be fairly difficult without having abilities of an appropriate rank. There will also be an option to purchase the rank outright, but it will be expensive. Finally there will be an option to purchase the rank at a cheaper price, but only if the character has some number of some rank abilities.
These are the possible character ranks in order of progression. Note that the last two can only be received from special site events.
Starting Character Rank:
New members can create any number of characters of Novice or Adept ranks. After a member begins ranking up a character, they can create any number of characters of their highest rank character's rank or lower. That does not apply for Master or Legend, which have to be ranked up to.
Some canon positions come with autoranks. This means that you start at that rank with three abilities of that rank. Autoranks do not count for determining what rank other characters can start at. You can learn more about canon position autoranks by looking at the canon information.
Ability Ranks:
Abilities and Artifacts also have ranks. The ranks determine how strong the ability or artifact is. Abilities and artifacts will have a greater effect on targets with character ranks lower than the rank of the ability. They will have a weaker effect against higher ranked targets. Ability ranks also determine what abilities can do. More information can be found in the Abilities and Artifacts page.
Start Ability Ranks:
New characters begin with three abilities of their character rank. If you have a new Professional character, then you can have three Professional abilities.
New Abilities and Upgrades:
Information about purchasing abilities and upgrades can be found in the shop. What you should know here is that you can get more abilities, or upgrade the ones you have, by spending EXP in the shop or earning them from site events. Getting a new ability will be more expensive than upgrading one that you already have.
